Amazing. If you plan to publish the full game one day, I am playing on day one!

My feedback: Mech armor/visual customization will be added hopefully :) Seeing enemies is hard sometimes. Maybe it is just me, but in some environments, they blend a bit. UI style is amazing, but if the environment is yellow(ish) and the UI border is also yellow, they blend a bit and hurt my eyes. You could make the opacity darker for UI elements during gameplay maybe? Pixel art mechs are awesome, but I think the game would benefit from very small cutscenes (just still images would do because I know how hard it is to animate).

Pros: great sound design, pixel art/3D pixel art, punchy and satisfying effects, cool gun models, and top-notch environmental destruction. All my feedback is personal, so I hope the game will be enjoyable for everyone who knows about mecha/shoot 'em ups more than I do :)

Good luck

Thank you for playing and the feedback!

This is planned, though I may end up reworking the whole hangar system since a lot more modules and upgrades would make it a bit hard to manage on that single screen.

Maybe it is just me, but in some environments, they blend a bit.

I'll see if I can improve their readability more.

I've actually re-worked the in game UI recently, it should be a lot clearer and easy to read in the next updated.

Pixel art mechs are awesome, but I think the game would benefit from very small cutscenes (just still images would do because I know how hard it is to animate).

Those are planned!

Good luck

Thank you!

I'm on stock windows 11 but when I try to run it from the itch.io manager or as a zip nothing opens. Initially it gave me a windows defender warning but I clicked run anyway but now that doesn't come up. Tried opening the exe as an admin too.
In the manager it clearly thinks that the game is open but it never appears anywhere. Existing problem?

Do you have DirectPlay and the DirectX patch installed?

DirectX patch is installed at this link from the main page.
Directplay is enabled via windows features > legacy features > directplay + restart.

I've tried opening the file from an extracted zip via the exe file and also with 'run as admin' and also through the itch.io launcher including 'enabled sandbox' checked.

For what ever reason, it registers the click, shows loading, 'last played x minutes ago' but does nothing at all. Surely this is a problem with my windows specifically but I can't for the life of me figure out what.

(1 edit)

Looked around, came across this Microsoft answers page. The person who made the topic said they managed to get it to run by giving it unrestricted access under properties. I assume Windows 11 is blocking it since it's an old engine and is suspicious of it. Try that and see if it works.

Sadly this did not work. I've tried a few other things and here were my findings.

1. Tried that link and fiddled with compatibility mode trying windows 7, vista and 95.

2. Tried what the forum post says which is to give 'unrestricted access' but there is no option like that in properties, I am the admin and I already have all the access I can see.

No difference noted. I did some more digging and found that when I launch I can see the app open in task manager briefly and then closes. Sometimes it also has another program that opens briefly before it closes called WerFault.exe.

Looked into WerFault.exe and found indications to look into the reliability monitor on windows where I can see windows is logging errors when ever it's tried to open. Followed that down and the suggestions were to run sfc, disable windows defender (a common suggestion) and more.

I tried running SFC, disabled windows defender as much as windows will allow me to and tried all the above again (compability mode etc). No dice. I also looked at the printout of the reli monitor to see if the web had anything but no dice.

I think that I'm stuck and also scratching my head. I'm really not certain as to why it simply won't open as I have not seen this on other apps or itch.io games.

For now I'm out of ideas and have nothing else to try and it's probably not a priority given I've seen no one else having this issue. However if you decide you wish to investigate then let me know and I can provide any diagnostic material you want.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm not sure if there's any other people here using Windows 11 who could offer help, but I'm going to look into it a bit further and see if I can find a solution.

The only thing I can think of right now is to maybe try and redownload the game and then maybe unzip the folder with a program like 7zip assuming you did it using the regular Windows unzip function? I know the chances are slim, but there really shouldn't be anything wrong with the game itself. One other person did say redownloading it fixed some strange crashes.

The game style is great,I love it!

And I have some suggestions: 1. The screen shakes too much when the crosshair moves, which can cause dizziness; 2. The crosshair color is not distinct against the background. Could we have the option to customize the crosshair color? 3. I hope there will be corresponding changes on the model when switching weapons.

I really like this game,have a good day,bro!

Thank you for playing!

The screen shakes too much when the crosshair moves, which can cause dizziness;

There is a screenshake option in the settings, but eventually I plan on also having the option to disable all camera smoothing/lerp movement for maximum precision.

The crosshair color is not distinct against the background. Could we have the option to customize the crosshair color?

This is planned, you'll be able to set it to high contrast black and white.

3. I hope there will be corresponding changes on the model when switching weapons.

Maybe!

I really like this game,have a good day,bro!

Glad you liked it!

So... about a week ago I played this and I was so amazed that I couldn't help but do a mini review on my channel. Thank you MezzSoft for delivering such a work of art, please keep it up you're doing really great!!.

btw the video is in Spanish lol

Thank you so much for playing and making a review! That's some really high effort editing, very nicely done. No worries about it being in Spanish, I watched it with the auto-translated subtitles. It's great <3

(+1)

The amount of effort you put into your game is such that it took me 6 minutes just to scratch the surface of your work. Thank you so much and again, keep up the good work because you have passion MezzSoft.

You're too kind, thank you!

BRO... It's cool as shit! Can't wait to buy when is finished. Game's dope.
As a fellow curios game developer, how many people are working on it and from how much time? :)

Thank you for playing! At the moment, it's been roughly 300 days of development. It still has a long way to go, but the main gameplay is shaping up.

Bro.....! This is on whole another level!

Cheers!

(+1)

Cant wait to buy wheanever its finished

Thank you!

(+1)

What an absolute gem! Can't wait to see how it develops. Will definitely buy the full version. You're doing a great job so far!

Cheers! Much appreciated for the support.

(+3)

I have played the DEMO many times, it is a masterpiece, looking forward to the day when the work is completed. Will there be custom mechs with backstories and plots in the future? Hopefully it will be available on steam store in the future.

(+2)

I want to see the other armor and engine options he'll create.

I'm glad it's very replayable!

A plot and backstory is in the works, with an eventual Steam release planned.

(+3)

The mecha design, the overall atmosphere of the game, and the destruction depicted in the game are truly amazing!

The story and world that we can sense at this point is great, but it would be great if more detailed lore and story could be added. I think the character designs are attractive and it would be nice if the pilots could speak more often.

(+2)

A voice actress would be dope!

Appreciate the kind words!

I plan on further developing the world and story in addition to some characters. I realize right now with just the mission descriptions and random pilot pop-ups there isn't much to go off of, but there's a lot more planned.

it felt like playing the tame version of Armored Core, Pls add melee in further update as well variants for chassis and legs. It's really an awesome Game

I'm in the process of implementing a melee system right now, it's a highly requested feature. Thanks for playing!

(+1)

Come on, you should build your steam page now! Because we will forget this game without wishlist

I'll put up an announcement when the time comes and link it on the page. Don't worry, it's still coming.

(+1)

Next level amazing!

Thanks!

(+2)

omfg, just finsihed it. THIS IS SO GOOD. Sound design, graphics/art, music, vibes, story, everything is so amazing. I never got into mech games, though I always wanted to. But I am into this heavily! I can't wait for it to come out!

Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you liked it.

(+1)

Ah, what a shame it’s Windows-only. It looks so good. Having it on macOS and with controller support would be such a treat. I would love to pay for it. The Linux build sounds promising, though. Keep up the good work.

Sorry about that. If there was an easy way to compile a Mac and Linux version I would have it on the page already, but unfortunately it requires an actual Mac computer and setting up a VM for Linux.

Controller support is coming though!

(+1)

Please, make a Kickstarter. It's a very nice game to be played. I need more than a Prototype!!!

Thank you for playing!

If I really need funding I'll consider it, but for now I'm fine with just having an option to donate a dollar here. Development is progressing slowly but steadily.

(+2)

All my support, it is an amazing work you've made with this game, congrats!! I will be aware of the progress!!

Kind regards and good luck with such SUPER NICE game!!

(+2)

this is soooo good

Thanks!

This looks super rad. Vaguely reminds me of playing Bolo on the mac in the computer lab back in the 1990s. If you don't mind me asking what is the font/s used in the weapon select menu screen?

(+1)

That classic game and its setting has been an inspiration to me for a long time, I'm glad someone else knows about it.

If you don't mind me asking what is the font/s used in the weapon select menu screen?

I created all of the pixel fonts in the hangar myself. They don't really have names, they're just labelled like "font_terminal0", "font_terminal_small", etc.

Awesome game so far. Would love to see high framerate support (without speeding up time) some day. I would gladly attempt to add a track or 2 for your levels if you wanted that (I love playing synthwavey stuff). I wouldn't be fast as I work full time, but I'd do it for free.

Thanks for playing!

Higher FPS would be nice, but I'm afraid for now it's capped to 60 FPS. Appreciate the offer for music as well, I'll let you know!

(+1)

Sounds good. Ive been making music for 2 decades so Im not too shabby. But either way, I'm seriously looking forward to seeing your progress

(+2)

The 90s anime gun explosions noises are EXCELLENT! this game is my shit Im gonna just replay these levels endlessly listening to ghost in the shell or evangelion in the background

Glad you like it! I hope I can give it a suitably retro soundtrack in the future.

(+2)

An endless wave mode would rock too…im very addicted to the combination of sounds and animations in this game lol

Hell yeah

(+1)

I love the little details in this game. The tank cook offs, CIWS-like turrets shooting grenades, ammo displays, etc.

Minor bug: the twitter link in the main menu has a typo and you have to manually type in the correct link.

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you noticed all of those details like the tank cookoffs, they're some of my favorite.

Minor bug: the twitter link in the main menu has a typo and you have to manually type in the correct link.

I'll need to fix this by integrating a shell command into the game. I looked into the problem and it turns out that the code technically does work, but Chromium browsers have since evolved and are no longer compatible with that specific protocol for opening the link.

(+1)

Great game i look forward for the full devloped game. My only issue is i cant switch display on different monitor to stream and show the game ! I try windows + shift + arrow key and it create a blank window while the game stay on my main display. also there no window mode to move the window to another display . I know this game is in early devlopement ( and already has high potential) but could i have some help about my issue if its solvable for the moment ?

(1 edit)

Thank you for playing!

I'm sorry about the issue with the displays, I've seen a few people streaming it have that same problem. It tends to always default to monitor 1 from what I can tell? I think this is mostly an issue with the engine I'm using being very old and probably struggling to handle newer OS architecture. I'll see if I can find some way to patch or fix it in the next build, I apologize.

(+1)

Thx for the fast reply . No worries and take your time your project is realy worth showing and sharing it to more mecah sci -fi enthusiast !

Cheers!

(1 edit) (+1)

Not too hard not too easy. Hyped for more and bigger levels maybe with some more strategic elements and more intelligent enemies? A level editor would be ultra nice.

Bugs? VSync options won't save and have to be set every time loading the game.

(+1)

Thanks for playing!

Hyped for more and bigger levels maybe with some more strategic elements and more intelligent enemies?

Both are planned. I intend to dial up some of the stealth elements since so far it's all been run and gun for the most part.

Bugs? VSync options won't save and have to be set every time loading the game.

Sorry about the V-sync not saving. I had one person tell me it gave them some issues, so I figured it was best that setting isn't auto-saved in case it crashes the game on boot.

This game is gold! But please remove the enemy indicators around cursor. They are quite distracting when aiming. Aside from this, its amazing... I CAN STOP PLAYING!

Thanks!

I'll have an option to switch their position to the player or turn them off entirely.

How do I fix the D3DX file problem? I checked my computer and it says I have DirectX 12, so I am a bit confused.

Try downloading and running the patch nonetheless, it should tell you if it's up to date or not.

(+2)

This game is awesome! Please finish development!

Thank you!

so how do I fix this?

Project Landsword - A Fast-Paced Mech Shooter You NEED to Try! | Itch.io

This was definitely a fun game to play. Haven’t played a Mech game ina while and this definitely satisfied that urge to play a Mech game again. Thanks for making this and I hope you keep on making more missions!!

Thank you for playing and making a video!

Pretty amazing demo. Visually stunning and a unique game. I have some thoughts that are really just Quality of Life comments to make but the game itself is something im excited for.

(1 edit) (+1)

I love the 3D pixel art, seeing the buildings change perspective as i was moving actually prompted me to spend about 5 minutes just appreciating the visual style.

QOL comments however, I feel like the background (dirt and roads and the world itself) Is so over saturated and rich in color I literally cannot see the enemies or bullets or my targeting reticle at a glance. Most encounters with enemies i had were surprised when something suddenly connected.

There's a real lack of contrast between the environment and the game play elements.I'd be a rookie compared to the level of development you're at but I've been an artist for a long time and I'm struggling with visual clarity. Especially on a desert level (yellow) with my bullets (also yellow) with no way to do anything about it. If i was color blind or had issues with yellow/red, this game would be visually impossible to follow. I say all this cause the visual style is absolutely gorgeous and the gameplay is great and those two aspects are in a bit of a conflict, bringing down overall experience a bit.

Even if there was an accessibility option to increase the size of the reticle and targeting graphics around the enemies it would be a step to help this particular point out without even touching the saturation and contrast of the world

but I feel like the contrast and saturation of the levels should be adjusted for your beta/prerelease versions.

(+1)

(it would also make the awesome explosions visually pop more)

(+1)

Thanks for playing and the feedback!

I'll see if I can tweak the colors in some of the levels, I see how it's easy to lose track of things due to the lack of contrast sometimes.

I plan on having also an option to change the reticule to be white with outlines for better visibility. I had a partially colorblind player request that previously.

(2 edits)

Extremely satisfying so far, everything feels great to interact and play with. I'm looking forward to when this title is finally flushed out and released, would buy if there is any kind of early access in the works.

Although I must add, currently, the AI seems a bit lacking. It would be awesome if we could combat life-like enemy mechs that take cover, flank and et cetera. Best of luck!

(+1)

Thank you for playing and your interest!

I agree that the AI right now is a bit lacking. I've been working to update their pathfinding and behave a bit smart when pursuing the player. Having them take cover would also be really cool, but a pretty tricky thing to pull off. It would be pretty neat though.

(+1)

10/10 Would recommend to all armored core fans

Cheers!

(+1)

I will definitely buy if there is a early access on steam!

(+1)

Cheers! Hopefully sometime soon.

Destoying warships at a dockyard would be dope.Oh and a boss mission against a heavy attack helicopter. Like from Armored Core 6. Additionally, would you ever give Xbox style controller use for PC? My hands hate WASD.

(+1)
Destoying warships at a dockyard would be dope.

Agreed. A mission at a naval base in general might be fun.

a boss mission against a heavy attack helicopter. Like from Armored Core 6.

I believe people affectionately refer to it as the Filter Chopper. It would definitely be pretty fun in a city mission.

Additionally, would you ever give Xbox style controller use for PC? My hands hate WASD.

Gamepad support is planned. I'm still working out some issues with the settings, but it will be implemented.

(+1)

Controls are smooth, juice is amazing, gameplay is fluid. Feels like I am playing a buttery Armored Core that is 2D. Absolutely love it. <3

Thank you! I'm glad you had fun.

(+3)

Really great work! The railgun is immensely satisfying to fire. I think I've used it in almost every mission.

(+1)

It really seems to be everyone's favorite weapon, haha. I hope I can make the others as satisfying to use.

(+3)

An old dude here, your game reminded me of many cool games from when I was young, but better. Nice visual, animations and sounds.I hope you'll be able to complete the game.

(+1)

Also, if you plan a French translation, I would be happy to help.

(+1)

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you liked it. Also appreciate the offer for help with the French translation, I'll remember that when I get around to localization.

(+1)

i was looking for this game on steam. such a cool game, hope you can fully complete it and i will buy it

Thank you! A Steam release is planned.

(+1)

It's an amazing game and I'm looking forward to the next update:)

(1 edit) (+1)

Thanks! It might be a while before the next update, but I will put up a progress report at some point showing some of the content I've been working on.

(1 edit)

Cool game!

And I have some questions:

-Whether you have the idea to post this game to other platforms like steam?

-Do you want to translate your game into other languages?

-Will this game have a clear storyline, or the mission briefings are just background settings?

Thanks for playing!

-Whether you have the idea to post this game to other platforms like steam?

Yes!

-Do you want to translate your game into other languages?

Hopefully. There's a lot of non English speaking players. It will require a lot of effort to modify things like the HUD and text drawing in order to switch languages, but I do plan on having it.

-Will this game have a clear storyline, or the mission briefings are just background settings?

Hopefully!

(+1)

Thanks for letting me know the information!

I will immediately buy it when it goes on steam:)

And my friends also approved of its gameplay. We have decided to offer help if you're going to make a Chinese localization.
